MINEC and World Bank to invest US$150 million in training for vulnerable population

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

In a radio interview, the minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem, informed that together with the World Bank, they will implement an employability project to improve access to employment opportunities and skills development for the vulnerable population, through an integrated approach for the incorporation of people into jobs or businesses.

This project is expected to be executed with US$150 million, and these funds will be used specifically to train the most vulnerable populations in the skills they need to ensure that they have a high probability of being hired.

The beneficiaries of the project, which will be implemented by the Ministerio de Economía (Minec) over five years, will be young people, female heads of household, people with disabilities and returned migrants who are not studying, working or receiving training. In addition, it is estimated that 180,000 people will benefit directly and indirectly.

Hayem also indicated that the project includes the delivery of temporary employment subsidies for companies that grant beneficiaries their first job opportunity for up to six months, based on the minimum wage for the commerce and service sector.

According to the Ministerio de Economía, this reflects the good relations with multilateral organizations, thanks to which there is more financing for education, health, infrastructure, water and airports, among others, which allow the development of Salvadorans in different areas and of course boost the economy.
