The Banco Central de Reserva (BCR), reports that the Índice de Volumen Actividad Económica (IVAE) had an interannual growth of 6.7% in september 2021, a factor that reflects the dynamism of the national production.

IVAE is the one that measures the evolution of the economic activity of the different industries included in the calculation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

As a short-term indicator, it does not measure GDP, but its main objective is to indicate the inter-annual trajectory of productive activity, and thus provide signals to economic agents on the cycle trend of economic activity and its changes.

In economic management, it is important to have timely information for decision making, in a changing and increasingly competitive economic context.

This 6.7% growth reflects the dynamism of sectors such as: communications and information, commerce, transportation, scientific and technical activities, public administration and defense, among others.

Professional, scientific and technical activities had a growth of 16.5%, information and communications had a growth of 14.0%, commerce, transportation, lodging and food service had a growth of 10.9%, and public administration and defense, education and health had a growth of 6.5%.

The IVAE is formed by the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) and the Ministry of Economy (MINEC), through the Dirección General de Estadística y Censos (DIGESTYC), which has given rise to the signing of inter-institutional agreements that strengthen the timely availability of basic information, the main bastion in the development of economic indicators and the current project.
