The Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), laid the first stone for the construction of the first photovoltaic generation plant of the State "Talnique Solar" in La Libertad.

The Talnique Solar plant will be built with an investment of US$20 million and will start operations in december 2023.

This is a modern project that will contribute to the generation of energy for thousands of salvadoran homes and will be built by the subsidiary Inversiones Energéticas (INE).

Inversiones Energéticas is the only subsidiary company dedicated to making energy with bunker that seeks the transition to renewable energy. The plant will have an installed capacity of 17 megawatts at peak hours and will generate an average of 31,700 megawatt hours per year.

This plant will consist of 29,652 solar panel modules on an 18.5-block site. The technology of the panels will be through the use of robotic cleaning.

"We feel very proud to give this good news, because for the first time in the history of our country, the State creates, designs, plans and executes a solar project. Talnique Solar will be ready and generating in december 2023", said Daniel Álvarez, President of CEL, during the official ceremony.

The impact will be that at least 26 thousand homes that consume an average of 100 kilowatt hours will receive renewable energy and will avoid an estimated investment of 16,840 tons of carbon dioxide.

This project generates 100 jobs in the construction phase and 350 direct jobs. This project will have an impact on the energy bill because it will be connected to the wholesale market, allowing salvadorans to pay a more stable tariff.

The commercialization will be carried out through a long-term public nature contract, which was made possible thanks to the reforms to the General Electricity Law, approved by the deputies this year at CEL's initiative.

This project is part of the vision of the Central Government, which seeks to change the energy matrix, consolidating to date more than 80% of consumption through renewable energy such as hydroelectric, geothermal, wind and photovoltaic.
