Written by Evelyn Alas

The President of the Comisión Ejecutiva de Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), Daniel Álvarez, appeared at the session of the Economy Commission of the Legislative Assembly (AL), to talk about a possible reform to the Ley de General de Electricidad.

The purpose of this reform is to lower the cost of energy and make it a public good, and at the same time to reform the Constitution of the Republic.

The reforms to the Ley General de Electricidad create the basis to promote tariff schedules in favor of the population, maintain clear rules for companies and guarantee fairness in payments to generating companies, assured CEL's president, Daniel Álvarez.

The president of the autonomous company assured that: ''Throughout the last years there have been many changes in the electric sector, but they have never been seen in an integral way".

"Before, the subsidiaries were used as petty cash for some political party, now they are looking for them to become more competitive and efficient for the transformation of energy", affirmed Daniel Álvarez.
