The substation, with an approximate cost of US$18.9 million, is of the latest technology and will have the capacity to cover the demand for all the development that is coming in the next 5 years.
This project will benefit more than 250 thousand inhabitants, which translates into 66 thousand DELSUR customers, mainly in the areas of Santa Tecla, Ciudad Merliot and the tourist area of the San Salvador Volcano, which includes all the restaurants and event sites that have been developed in recent years.
This project has a capacity of 45 megawatts (MW), with four distribution circuits, at a voltage level of 23,000 volts. This new facility is part of an integrated project with ETESAL, which is building a transformer substation in the same area.
Edwin Nuñez added that in a month's time they will inaugurate the repowering of the Talnique substation. In addition, the institution is working on a project involving 10 to 14 new substations. And they are in search of new technologies to be at the forefront and to provide a better service to the salvadoran population.
ETESAL was constituted in February 1999, as part of the compliance with the General Electricity Law, in order to restructure the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), thus allowing the restructuring of generation, transmission and distribution functions throughout the country.
