The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, inaugurated the 3 de febrero Hydroelectric Power Plant in the department of San Miguel, in the municipality of Carolina.

On october 19, 2023, the 3 de febrero Hydroelectric Power Plant was officially inaugurated in the eastern department of San Miguel. The investment amount for this project was US$800 million, as reported by the Central Government.

"The dam has a cost of approximately US$800 million, these were costs that were going to be paid, whether the dam was built or not; I even held a meeting before starting the Government to avoid that bill", said the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele in his speech at the beginning of operations.

He indicated that the electric bill would currently have an increase of up to 9%, but steps were taken so that a generalized discount could be made for the entire population, regardless of the distributor that provides the service.

"In order to benefit the population from now on, and for them to see that their dam was built for them. It has immediate benefits, not only we are going to avoid the increase, but we are going to give an additional discount to the electric rate”, President Bukele.

He also indicated that it is a work of great importance, because it will allow not only to diversify the energy matrix with renewable energy in more than 20 years, but also to inject clean and cheap energy to the market, with the country's own natural resources.
