The FAO Food Price Index stood at 118.3 points, down 1.3 points (down 1.1%) from its revised february level, as increases in the price indices for vegetable oils, dairy products and meat virtually offset declines in the price indices for sugar and cereals.

The Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) food price index recorded a 1.3% increase in july 2023 over june, but remained 11.8% below the value recorded in the same month last year.

According to a blog published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), representatives Francesca Caselli and Prachi Mishra say that the economic recovery has spurred a rapid acceleration in inflation this year in advanced and emerging market economies, driven by robust demand, tight supply and rapidly rising commodity prices.
