North of San Salvador, in the districts of Guazapa and Aguilares, women are transforming the traditional perception of agriculture, demonstrating that working the land is not exclusive to men, but rather a task in which they also play a fundamental role in supporting their families. They affirm that the Bono Agrícola (BAG) granted by the Government, through the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) and the Centro de Desarrollo de Comercio Agropecuario (CDCA), motivates them to continue cultivating the land.

Dedicated to the cultivation of corn, beans, and vegetables, these women have committed themselves to the responsibility of producing food, contributing directly to food security in their homes and communities, while strengthening their economic autonomy.

“The Bono Agrícolais useful for planting corn and beans. We are grateful for this support; I have bought a quintal of fertilizer, a quintal of sulfate, and other supplies”, said María del Carmen Cartagena.

The exchange of the Bono Agrícolarepresents a significant boost to continue productive work. The beneficiaries emphasized that this support allows them to acquire essential inputs for planting, motivating them to maintain and expand their crops each year.

In addition to guaranteeing food for their families, their work also generates a positive impact on their communities, promoting the active participation of more women in agricultural activities and breaking down historical cultural barriers.

“We must take advantage of the blessing that God gives us, first and foremost, and then the government. We plant corn and beans, we cultivate half a manzana (approximately 1.7 acres), but we have enough to cover expenses, thank God, and what we don’t eat, we sell”, said Julia Pérez de Hernández, after acquiring two quintals of fertilizer and foliar sprays with the US$75 from the Bono Agrícola card.
The women of northern San Salvador expressed their gratitude to the Government for the support provided, highlighting that this type of program strengthens their productive capacities and gives them greater opportunities for development in the agricultural sector.

“There are quite a few women who farm; I’ve seen some very determined women. My mother-in-law farms alongside her husband, and I do the same. We also enjoy growing plants at home. We really love agriculture, so I’m very grateful for the $75 bonus”, emphasized Blanca Aguilar, who redeemed the BAG at one of the agricultural service centers in Aguilares authorized by the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG).
