Trade between El Salvador and Costa Rica has reached the significant figure of US$678 million, according to recent data from the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR). This strengthening of economic relations is consolidated after the ratification of a new bilateral agreement on air transportation, approved by the Commission of Salvadorans Abroad, Legislation and Government of the Legislative Assembly.
The agreement, composed of 29 articles, seeks not only to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of air transportation, but also to guarantee the safety of passengers and aircraft against possible threats. With this, both countries are preparing to optimize international air services and strengthen the commercial ties that have united them for more than 180 years.
Bilateral trade also reflects a steady flow of goods, with a notable increase in the import of Costa Rican products by El Salvador. This growth not only promotes a more dynamic market, but also underscores both countries’ commitment to regional economic development.
“The government continues to take significant steps in expanding opportunities for international air services, seeking to make them efficient and competitive”, said Patricia Aguilera Bran, director of Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agreement was signed in November 2024, during President Nayib Bukele’s visit to San José, Costa Rica. This alliance reinforces the historic friendship between both nations, according to Eduardo García, Director of Economic Relations.
The ratification of this agreement represents a strategic step to boost trade and air transportation in Central America, offering new economic opportunities that will benefit both peoples.
