The Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería of El Salvador, through its official website indicated that from january 1 to date there have been more than 6 million migratory movements, a growth of 16% more than in the same period of the year 2023.

This is the percentage of entries and exits through the different salvadoran borders by air, land and sea, during the period from january 1 to may 31, 2024, it was recorded that 67% of entries were by land, this being the highest percentage, likewise by air there were 32% of entries and with a fairly low percentage is the maritime route with 1%.

In addition, Migración y Extranjería reported that El Salvador continues to be an ideal destination for tourists from all over the world, in these first 5 months of the year 2024, more than 1 million 700 thousand foreigners have entered the country, representing 58% of the entries to the country.

Likewise, more than 1 million 250 thousand salvadorans have entered the country, representing 42% of the total number of entries to the national territory.

In the month of may, more than 1,110,000 immigration controls were carried out at the different borders of El Salvador.

Detailed data on migratory movements allow authorities and the private sector to better plan tourism promotion strategies and investments in infrastructure and services, optimizing resources and improving the visitor experience.
