Business formalization can open new growth opportunities for women-led businesses in El Salvador. With that goal in mind, the Comisión Nacional de la Micro y Pequeña Empresa (CONAMYPE) organized the «Formalizar para crecer», workshop, an event that brought together more than 60 women entrepreneurs to provide them with information on the legal procedures, tax obligations, and health requirements necessary to operate formally.
The event took place at Hacienda de los Miranda, in coordination with the Instituto Salvadoreño para el Desarrollo de la Mujer (ISDEMU), Agencia de El Salvador para la Cooperación Internacional (ESCO), of Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, and Despacho de la Comisionada Presidencial para Operaciones y Gabinete de Gobierno (DCPOGG). The initiative was supported by the European Union and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The participants were selected based on the level of development and growth potential of their businesses. The event aimed at connecting them with the institutions responsible for the main formalization procedures, in order to facilitate access to official information and guidance on the requirements they must meet to carry out their business activities.

During the event, specialists from the Centro Nacional de Registros (CNR), Superintendencia de Regulación Sanitaria (SRS) and the Ministry of the Treasury gave presentations on the procedures that female entrepreneurs need to know to establish and strengthen their businesses. The explanations were designed to help participants understand the administrative procedures and obligations applicable to each economic activity.
Topics covered included the process for formally registering a business, tax obligations, electronic invoicing, and health requirements. The session also explained the importance of the registrations and procedures necessary for the operation of businesses, aspects that may vary depending on the type of business and the products or services it offers.
In addition to the presentations, the women entrepreneurs had access to institutional service desks where they could ask questions and receive guidance tailored to their businesses’ needs. This approach allowed them to gain a clearer understanding of the procedures they must follow and the institutions they can turn to move forward with formalizing their businesses.

Among the attendees were Brenda Bárcenas and Rosa María Cruz, who highlighted the importance of these forums for understanding the benefits of operating formally and obtaining information that contributes to business decision-making. The event took place as part of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Project, which aims to strengthen the capacities of women entrepreneurs and facilitate their access to support services.
CONAMYPE promotes formalization as a tool to improve the conditions for growth and sustainability of micro and small businesses. Complying with legal, tax, and health requirements can facilitate access to new markets, strengthen the trust of customers and suppliers, and create better conditions for expanding operations. Through this initiative, the participating institutions seek to contribute to the development of women-led businesses and expand their opportunities for participation in the salvadoran economy.
