The Government inaugurated this morning the Supply Center, to generate an efficient and sustainable food distribution system.
Previously, El Salvador only had one wholesale market, which is the Tiendona Market. Today, local producers sell quality fruits, vegetables and greens at fair prices, allowing wholesalers, merchants and restaurants to transport food at low cost as well.
“We can sell the product at a fair price and benefit the consumer. It is a good initiative”, said producer Jesús Portillo, who sells a variety of vegetables that he produces directly.
This is an advance of the Economic Plan announced by President Nayib Bukele a few months ago, in which he said that not only agricultural markets would be promoted, but also the construction of different supply centers for wholesale customers.
The Central de Abastos opened its doors at 2:00 a.m. and will close at 10:00 p.m.
“The truth is that the opportunity that the President has given us has been of great help, we as merchants and the place is very nice, it is organized, the clients have come to us to buy what I sell, the yuquita, the bundle and the tamarind. The clients have been here and we are here to serve the client and to treat them well and serve them the best”, says merchant Jorge Morales.
