The Defensoría del Consumidor of El Salvador will deploy its teams in 28 tourist spots during the holiday season to protect the economy of tourists. This measure seeks to ensure that national and international visitors enjoy a fair service without abuses in stores, hotels, and restaurants in the country.

The President of the Defensoría del Consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, informed that this deployment will be carried out in the main tourist destinations of El Salvador. In addition, among the actions to be carried out by the inspectors is the verification of expired products in supermarkets and restaurants, compliance with promotions and offers, and the display of visible prices for consumers. Likewise, it will be supervised that there are no additional charges for credit card payments, a practice that some businesses apply illegally.
The official highlighted that the Defensoría del Consumidor has managed to resolve more than 4,100 cases with refunds that exceed US$8.4 million in favor of consumers. “A 20% of the attentions have been through our physical offices, while 42% of the complaints have been made through digital means and 25% through our call center”, Salazar detailed.

The inspections will be carried out in places of high affluence such as La Libertad, Costa del Sol, El Cuco, the lakes, tourist towns and mountainous areas of northern Chalatenango. The objective is to ensure that businesses comply with consumer regulations and avoid irregularities that harm tourists.
“Our country has had a significant upturn in tourism and it is very important to work with the tourist consumer”, said Salazar. The Defensoría del Consumidor maintains its commitment to protect the rights of consumers and prevent abuses during one of the most important seasons of the year.
With this deployment, El Salvador reinforces its commitment to tourism development and consumer welfare, ensuring a safe and fair experience for all visitors to the country.
