The governments of El Salvador and Saudi Arabia signed a cooperation agreement today for the execution of eleven social projects, with an investment of US$10 million. The signing of the agreement was led by the minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Hill, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Saudi Embassy in Mexico, Mohamed Salah M. Althubaiti, who also represents his country in El Salvador.

This bilateral partnership aims to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, focusing on initiatives that will directly impact the quality of life of salvadorans. The funds will be allocated to projects related to health, early childhood care, food security, community services, technology, border services, and solid waste management.

During the ceremony, Foreign minister Hill expressed her gratitude for the Saudi support and emphasized that this collaboration represents a significant advance in the foreign policy promoted by President Nayib Bukele, who made the strategic decision to open the first salvadoran embassy in Saudi Arabia in may 2024, making El Salvador the first Central American country with permanent representation in Riyadh.
Diplomat Mohamed Salah emphasized that this is only the beginning of a more robust cooperative relationship and expressed his desire to continue developing joint projects that benefit both peoples. He also highlighted the importance of continuing to build bridges that strengthen bilateral ties.

The implementation of these projects will be coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will be supported by the Secretaría Técnica de Financiamiento Externo (SETEFE) and other national institutions to ensure compliance with the stated objectives. The event was attended by salvadoran officials and Saudi diplomatic representatives accredited in the region.
