Considering the increased commercial activity that characterizes Black Friday, various institutions responsible for protecting consumer rights have intensified their inspections in shopping centers and establishments across the country. The main objective is to guarantee transparent practices, prevent abuse, and ensure that advertised promotions comply with current regulations.
The president of the Defensoría del Consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, led an inspection day at Metrocentro San Salvador, where he highlighted that the high volume of purchases prompted a nationwide deployment to monitor prices, promotions, and customer service mechanisms. According to data from the institution, a recent survey revealed that 93% of Salvadorans are aware of the Black Friday season, and 45% plan to make purchases, either online or in physical stores.

To support purchasing decisions, the Defensoría reminded the public that the Compara portal is available, a digital tool that allows users to verify and compare more than 30,000 prices for technology items and household goods in various stores across the country.
To date, more than 500 verifications have been carried out, of which around 22% showed non-compliance, mainly related to a lack of information on promotions, the absence of clear conditions, and deficiencies in customer service mechanisms.
The operations will continue throughout the weekend and extend until december 1, when promotional activity increases for Cyber Monday. Authorities emphasize that these actions seek to protect Salvadorans’ wallets during one of the busiest shopping seasons of the year, promoting a safer and more competitive consumer environment.
