El Salvador projects the arrival of 145,000 visitors during the Holy Week season, which represents a significant boost for the country’s economic activity, especially in sectors such as tourism, commerce, transportation and services, according to the director of the Corporación Salvadoreña de Turismo (Corsatur), Alejandra Durán.
According to the official, this projection corresponds to the period between march 8 and april 5, which includes two long weekends, which expands the opportunities for mobilization of both international tourists and local visitors. Most tourists would come from countries such as Guatemala, the United States and Honduras, as well as other regions.
From an economic perspective, the arrival of visitors during this season represents an increase in demand for tourism services, which translates into higher income for hotels, restaurants, tour operators and small businesses. Likewise, it generates dynamism in informal commerce and activities linked to entertainment, especially in high-traffic destinations.

Durán pointed out that this behavior adds to a positive trend in the flow of tourists to the country. Until february 2026, El Salvador has registered 815,000 visitors, and if this pace is maintained, it is expected to reach the goal of 4.2 million tourists by the end of the year, consolidating the growth of the sector.
In the field of maritime tourism, an outstanding year is also projected. Corsatur estimates the arrival of between 14 and 18 cruise ships in 2026, which could make this season the most important in the country’s history in this segment. In one recent arrival alone, more than 2,400 people, including passengers and crew, disembarked to visit different tourist destinations.
Some of these visitors also travel to strategic points such as the Historic Center of San Salvador, where cultural, gastronomic and commercial activities are concentrated. In one of the recent arrivals, 257 cruise passengers visited this area, which shows the direct impact of tourism in key urban areas.

To sustain this growth, authorities have emphasized the importance of institutional coordination, especially on security and traffic management issues, with the support of entities such as the Tourism Police and the National Civil Police.
In addition, Corsatur continues to promote the National Tourism Registry, a tool aimed at businessmen and entrepreneurs in the sector. Currently, more than 1,000 companies are part of this registry, which reflects greater formalization and development of the tourism industry in the country.
Altogether, the projection of 145,000 visitors during Holy Week not only anticipates a high season in terms of mobility, but also a relevant economic impact that strengthens tourism as one of the key sectors for the economic growth of El Salvador.
