The Fundación Pomaawarded 71 scholarships for higher education to young salvadorans from different departments across the country. Of these scholarships, 69 are part of the Becas al Talento program and two are part of the Premio Atleta Integral in memory of Nelson Rivera.

Since its creation in 2007, the Becas al Talento fund has been aimed at students from low-income families with outstanding academic performance, enabling them to complete higher education in fields in demand by the job market and relevant to the country’s development.

“We celebrate a milestone that reflects the sustained commitment of the Poma family and our Foundation to the social progress of El Salvador”, said Alejandro Poma, president of the Fundación Poma, who emphasized the importance of young people having access to higher education to improve their access to quality job opportunities.

Over the past 20 years, more than 1,600 young people have received a Becas al Talento. According to data from the Foundation, 61% of graduates are the first members of their family to obtain a higher education degree, while 77% are currently working in their specific field of study.

“The impact of our fund is not measured solely by indicators. It also includes the personal and professional fulfillment we observe in our graduates, the satisfaction they feel in contributing to the economic and social mobility of their families, and the mark they, as professionals, are leaving on their work environments, communities, and in El Salvador”, said the Foundation’s president.

Of this new generation of scholarship recipients, 50 will pursue university degrees and 19 will study technical careers, most of them focused on sectors such as industry, technology, administration and business, health, and communications.

Roberto Carlos Moreira will continue his studies in Legal Sciences at the Universidad Tecnológica de El Salvador with the support of a Beca al Talento. During his remarks, he emphasized that for young people like him, the opportunity he received is a tool to achieve their dreams.

“Fundación Poma, you don’t just provide scholarships, you break down imaginary limits, you break down social barriers, and you teach us that we can transform our society. Thank you for trusting us!” he expressed during her speech.

For the families of scholarship recipients, the Fundación Poma program is also a source of joy. “I can’t describe the emotion I felt at that moment; I only remember my eyes filling with tears when I heard about this great blessing for my family”, said Julio Hernández, father of one of the new scholarship recipients and a collaborator with Grupo Poma.

“My family, especially my son Josué Alejandro, thanks the Fundación Poma for having placed their trust in him and helping him fulfill his dream of studying Software Development Engineering”, he expressed.
During the ceremony, two university scholarships were also awarded to the winners of the Nelson Rivera Memorial Athlete Award, in the female and male categories. This award is given to young people from the Fundación Educando a un Salvadoreño (FESA) as an incentive for their athletic achievements, their strong desire to excel, and their commitment to values.

With the support of the Fundación Poma,María Fernanda Rogel, a beach volleyball player, will pursue a degree in Multimedia Production; and Fernando Molina, a table tennis player, will study Industrial Engineering.

“Winning this scholarship proves that dreams can be achieved through effort, discipline, and perseverance; today I not only receive support, but also one more reason to never stop striving”, Rogel said.
Since its inception, the Talent Scholarships program has been supported by the Fundación Empresarial para el Desarrollo Educativo (FEPADE), which manages the fund and shares its expertise in higher education with the Fundación Poma.
