The Finance Committee of the Legislative Assembly approved amending the 2026 Budget Law to allocate US$554,615 to the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), to launch the Programa de Desarrollo Económico Sostenible, Inclusivo y Nutricional de las Zonas Rurales (PROGRESAR Rural). The initiative will now be submitted to the full legislature for discussion and a subsequent vote for approval or rejection.
According to reports, the funds are part of a financing agreement with Fondo Internacional de Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA), which consists of three loans totaling US$31.3 million. This agreement was ratified by the Legislative Assembly in december 2025 as part of efforts to promote development projects in rural areas.

According to the commission, the US$554,615 will allow the program to launch its initial operational activities, necessary for its implementation in the field. These include hiring technical and administrative staff to monitor project activities, as well as conducting specialized consultancies focused on their execution and supervision.
The funds will also be used to acquire computer equipment, vehicles, and furniture—resources considered essential for the program’s initial operation and the deployment of its activities in the beneficiary rural areas.

The PROGRESAR Rural program aims to promote the sustainable economic development of rural families by strengthening productive inclusion, generating economic opportunities, and fostering initiatives that improve food and nutritional security.
With this program, the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), seeks to contribute to reducing inequalities in rural areas, support small producers, and revitalize the local economy, with a focus on sustainability and improving the living conditions of the beneficiary communities.
