Air connectivity between El Salvador and Europe will receive a significant boost with the new direct routes between Madrid, Barcelona, and San Salvador, unveiled tuesday by Iberojet during a meeting with key players in the salvadoran tourism sector. The initiative aims to strengthen tourism, facilitate business travel, and expand investment opportunities between the two markets.
Carlos Umaña, president of the Cámara Salvadoreña de Turismo (Casatur), emphasized that these connections bring the country closer to a strategic market like Europe, characterized by visitors with higher spending power, longer stays, and an interest in cultural and natural destinations. He added that greater connectivity will allow for the diversification of tourist source markets and position El Salvador more strongly on the international stage.

The Spanish Ambassador to El Salvador, Sonia Álvarez Cibanal, congratulated Ávoris/Iberojet for investing in the country and stated that the new route will help increase the flow of tourists, facilitate business travel, and strengthen ties between the two nations.
Tourism minister Morena Valdez reported that in 2025, El Salvador received more than 50,000 visitors from Spain and that, with the new routes from Madrid and Barcelona, the goal is to double that figure. She also noted that the new connections will help attract travelers from other European countries who use these cities as hubs.

The minister also said that the country ended 2025 with 4.1 million international visitors, who generated more than US$3,600 million in foreign exchange and created approximately 340,000 direct and indirect jobs. For 2026, the projection is to reach 4.2 million visitors, of whom 2.1 million had already entered the country as of may.
Meanwhile, Mario Domínguez, deputy director of Ávoris/Iberojet, said that improvements in security have made it possible to consolidate a more competitive tourism offering for the European market. He said that, in addition to sun-and-beach tourism, El Salvador offers a rich cultural heritage that appeals to spanish travelers interested in discovering new experiences.
