On tuesday, the Ministerio de Turismo (MITUR) held the graduation ceremony for the Language Program to Strengthen the Tourism Sector in El Salvador, an initiative aimed at developing the language skills of the workforce in the national tourism industry. Participants completed their training in English, French, Portuguese, and Italian—languages that will enable them to better serve foreign visitors.
The ceremony was presided over by Tourism minister Morena Valdez and the executive director of the Corporación Salvadoreña de Turismo (Corsatur), Alejandra Durán. The program seeks to strengthen the capabilities of those who work in or wish to join the tourism sector, helping to raise the quality of services offered at the country’s various destinations.
During her remarks, minister Valdez noted that the growth of tourism in El Salvador makes it necessary to better prepare the workforce—not only in language proficiency but also in soft skills and competencies that enable them to provide a better experience for international visitors.

The official emphasized that the program is part of efforts to create greater opportunities for development and access to the labor market, especially for young people, through the acquisition of skills that meet the current needs of the tourism industry.
She also expressed her gratitude for the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Corsatur, and the institutions that have supported the project’s implementation, noting that cooperation among different entities has made it possible to expand training opportunities for the population.
Valdez explained that the program achieved broad territorial coverage, with participants from departments and municipalities such as Chalatenango, Santa Ana, Santiago de María, Suchitoto, La Libertad, and Surf City, among others, ensuring access for people from different parts of the country without geographical restrictions.

In addition, he announced that by the end of this year, the number of graduates is expected to exceed 900, as new training sessions are still being planned. He said that the government will continue to work alongside the IDB, other multilateral organizations, and the Ministries of Education and Economy to further strengthen the workforce in the tourism sector.
Through this initiative, the Ministry of Tourism aims to train more professionals capable of serving visitors of different nationalities, thereby strengthening the sector’s competitiveness and contributing to the growth of one of El Salvador’s most dynamic economic sectors.
