The president of the Asociación Salvadoreña de Industriales (ASI), Jorge Arriaza, described the launch of the Centro Logístico Internacional San Jorge, the first economic unit of the Corredor Interoceánico de Guatemala as a strategic initiative. He believes it will contribute to strengthening Central American trade integration, improving the competitiveness of companies, and reducing logistics costs for regional trade.
Arriaza explained that the project represents a significant opportunity for El Salvador due to its close trade relationship with Central American countries. He noted that Central America is the country’s second-largest trading partner, second only to the United States, so infrastructure that streamlines the transport of goods will have a positive impact on salvadoran exports and imports. He also said that more than 70% of the country’s cargo leaves through Atlantic ports, so a more efficient logistics connection could reduce transit times, lower costs, and minimize delays in supply chains.

The industry leader emphasized that one of the sectors that would benefit most is salvadoran industry, comprised of 26 productive sectors and responsible for 93% of national exports. In his view, the new logistics center will improve the sector’s competitiveness within a context of reindustrialization, facilitating the movement of goods and strengthening value chains between Guatemala and El Salvador.
He also stated that there is growing investment interest between the two countries, especially in sectors such as construction and manufacturing, and considered that the development of the Interoceanic Corridor can consolidate this economic relationship. According to Arriaza, the creation of regional value chains will allow companies in both countries to produce more efficiently and compete more effectively in international markets.

The president of the ASI also noted that the project is consistent with the logistics strategy that El Salvador is promoting through the modernization of ports, airports, and customs facilities. In this regard, he maintained that the Centro Logístico Internacional San Jorge, will complement these efforts and contribute to the Regional Mobility Master Plan promoted by the Secretaría de Integración Económica Centroamericana (SIECA), aimed at facilitating trade and the transport of goods in the region.

The Centro Logístico Internacional San Jorge, was officially launched by the Consorcio Interoceánico de Guatemala S.A. (CIGSA) as the first component of the Corredor Interoceánico de Guatemala, a 372-kilometer multimodal logistics platform that seeks to connect the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The project entails an estimated investment of US$15 billion in infrastructure and aims to make Guatemala a strategic hub for international trade, strengthening Central American economic integration.
