Walmart continues to strengthen its commitment to food security in El Salvador by inaugurating a cold storage facility, the result of a US$41,000 donation to the Banco de Alimentosde El Salvador in 2025. The funds were used for the construction of the cold storage facility and the purchase of crates that will optimize the rescue, storage, and distribution of perishable food.
The newly inaugurated infrastructure ensures the proper preservation of recovered food, maintaining its safety and nutritional value to benefit more than 41,000 Salvadorans served by social organizations allied with the Banco de Alimentos.

“At Walmart, we believe that access to safe and nutritious food transforms lives. We are proud to strengthen the Food Bank’s capacity to rescue more products and get them to those who need them most”. “Every food item recovered represents an opportunity to reduce waste and generate well-being in our communities”, said Sandra Cáceres, Senior Corporate Affairs Specialist at Walmart El Salvador.
María Inés Olivares, General Director of the Banco de Alimentosde El Salvador, highlighted: “Thanks to Walmart’s support, today we take another step in our mission. This new cold storage facility strengthens our capacity to rescue and store perishable food, allowing us to provide access to safe and highly nutritious food to thousands of salvadorans. Furthermore, this donation makes it possible to deliver food safety kits and strengthen the capacities of the organizations benefiting from our Community Meals program in good food handling practices, ensuring that each donation reaches those who need it most safely”.

This donation adds to the results achieved by Walmart in El Salvador during 2025, when it donated more than 317 tons of food, equivalent to US$700,000. Among the donated products were fruits, vegetables, dairy products, frozen foods, eggs, cold cuts, pizzas, prepared meals, and pet food.

The cold storage facility was inaugurated during a volunteer day in which 2,809.97 kg of products from stores were recovered, benefiting three communities and a total of 2,393 people.

These actions are part of Walmart’s regional strategy to combat hunger and reduce food waste by recovering food-safe products from its stores, plants, and distribution centers.
With this partnership, Walmart reaffirms its commitment to generating shared value and building more resilient communities through sustainable food security solutions.
