
Private banks belonging to the Asociación Bancaria Salvadoreña (ABANSA) closed the first half of 2026 with results reflecting sustained growth in the financial system. As of June, assets exceeded US$29.523 billion, while loans and deposits registered year-over-year increases of 10.4% and 13.4%, respectively. Furthermore, portfolio quality and solvency indicators remained above regulatory requirements.
The assets managed by ABANSA member banks reached US$29.5239 billion as of June 2026, representing year-over-year growth of 10.7%, equivalent to an additional US$2.859 billion compared to the same month in 2025. According to the press release, this increase reflects public confidence and the banking system’s ability to meet the needs of families and businesses.
Regarding financing, loans reached US$19,978.8 million, a 10.4% increase compared to june of the previous year, representing an additional US$1,876.4 million. This growth allowed for greater availability of resources for various purposes, including home purchases, business investments, productive projects, and household needs.

Credit to businesses reached US$10,636 million, representing 53% of the total portfolio, with a year-on-year increase of 13.6%. The construction sector showed the strongest growth, with US$1,518.5 million and a 30.9% increase, followed by services, which grew by 20.3%, and commerce, with an 11.2% increase.
Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises also experienced greater access to financing. The MSME loan portfolio closed in june at US$2,960.85 million, a year-on-year increase of 12.9%, equivalent to an additional US$339.2 million. The main boost came from productive credit, which increased by 14.5%, while the number of loans granted reached 89,434, 4% more than the previous year.
Financing for households totaled US$9,348.2 million, with a year-on-year increase of 6.9%. Within this segment, housing loans reached US$3,108.7 million and increased by 7.9%, while personal loans reached US$6,239.5 million, with a growth of 6.5%.

Deposits in private banks reached US$23,259 million in june, a year-on-year increase of 13.4%, equivalent to an additional US$2,756 million. Demand deposits grew by 14.3% and time deposits increased by 11.7%. Regarding financial strength, the solvency ratio was 14.55%, above the legal minimum of 12%, while the non-performing loan ratio stood at 1.50%. Reserve coverage reached 146.07%, meaning that for every dollar in overdue loans, US$1.46 was held in reserves.
The banking system also showed growth in the use of digital financial services. As of june 2026, interbank transfers facilitated more than 7.1 million transactions, a year-on-year increase of 44.6%, for a total of US$5.766 billion. Meanwhile, credit card lending reached US$1.374 billion, with growth of 10.8%, supporting more than 1.04 million unique credit card customers, a 13.7% increase. With these results, ABANSA’s member banks reaffirmed their commitment to supporting individuals, families, and businesses through credit, savings, and financial services.
