This wednesday marks the First National Meeting: Champions of Digital Health, an event that brings together professionals and representatives from the sector to share experiences, exchange knowledge, and propose initiatives aimed at incorporating digital tools into healthcare in El Salvador.
The event will feature a panel discussion titled “Challenges in Digital Transformation in El Salvador”, featuring Secretary of Innovation Daniel Méndez alongside other experts. The meeting will address the progress made, the challenges faced, and the initiatives that have helped modernize various processes within the healthcare system.
Méndez emphasized that the digital transformation began with the digitization of the healthcare system and the integration of the Ministry of Health, accompanied by improvements to its IT system. He also noted that, with support from multilateral organizations, the institution’s staff has been equipped with technological tools—such as tablets and laptops—to facilitate the performance of their duties.
One of the main advances mentioned during the meeting is the Sistema Integrado de Salud (SIS), a platform created in El Salvador to strengthen the system through an integrated and connected IT tool for patient care. Its implementation aims to facilitate information management and connect various processes related to health services.
Carlos Alvarenga, Deputy Minister of Management and Development at the Ministry of Health, emphasized that digital transformation has brought about significant changes in information management and care processes. He explained that the panel provides an opportunity to review the system’s evolution—from its initial challenges to the progress made and the international standing of these initiatives—as well as the transition from paper-based methods to technological tools.
Méndez also highlighted the role of healthcare personnel in leveraging the new tools and noted that the incorporation of technology has already led to advances in areas such as laboratory services and pharmacy. The meeting thus aims to continue promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences to strengthen the use of digital solutions and contribute to more integrated and modern healthcare.
