The legislative board studied a request from the Ministry of Finance to amend the Budget Law, in the part that corresponds to CEPA, to incorporate funds from previous years, in the amount of US$19,490,891.

For consulting services, complementary studies, and preliminary works, $18,710,300.72 will be allocated; $780,596.69 will be used to pay personnel assigned to the project.

The project

Since 2022, when the Legislative Body approved the Law for the Construction, Administration and Maintenance of the Pacific International Airport, CEPA formulated the project, which will have an estimated cost of US$335 million. This consists of building and equipping an airport infrastructure to serve between 350,000 and 500,000 Salvadorans or foreigners annually. This amount could be higher depending on the increase in demand.

Some of the investments to be made with the requested budget will be the construction of a runway to serve flights from the entire American continent, taxiways and turning platforms on the runways, platforms for aircraft parking and obstacle limitation surfaces. The project will also include earthworks and drainage, a fuel facilities area, air traffic control facilities, aeronautical lighting for the airport, and a building for rescue and firefighting services.

In addition, the passenger terminal, customs, baggage waiting area, restrooms, parking lot, electrical installations, warehouses, administrative offices, and other facilities will be built.

With this ambitious infrastructure project, the Government seeks to provide an airport connection to the eastern zone of El Salvador, to promote the potential of becoming a pole of economic development, encourage the growing demand of passengers, develop international tourism, and contribute to activate the port of La Unión.

It is estimated that more than one million Salvadorans residing in the eastern zone will see improvements in their economy and 20,000 jobs will be created during the project's execution.
