The Defensoría del Consumidor (DC) once again carried out the application of the national plan of inspections to avoid speculation and hoarding of products of the basic food basket, after the announcement of the increase in the minimum salary.

The president of the Defensoría, Ricardo Salazar, informed that this is the fifth consecutive day in which they verify that the prices of the different products have not suffered any type of increase, after the recent news made by the President of the Republic.

"Today we are in Gerardo Barrios Street, a medullar point in the supply of basic grains. The Defensoría del Consumidor is registering prices in this sector", said Ricardo Salazar, president of the Defensoría del Consumidor.

With the “Plan de Inspecciones” the institution has so far carried out price verifications in the western, central and eastern zones of El Salvador, where establishments have been warned that they may be subject to fines if they increase prices arbitrarily, after the announcement of the minimum wage.

Price inspections will continue until after the application of the 20% increase in the minimum wage, scheduled for august 1st.

Consumers may report any type of anomaly or change in prices through the 910 number and WhatsApp 7860-9704.
