Act now to restore the planet's biodiversity on World Environment Day

Written by Evelyn Alas

Chance is not going to work. If you want our planet to recover the losses it is suffering in biodiversity, you have to do the right thing. And among the many things you can do is to take small actions every day so that, on the next World Environment Day celebration (June 5), you feel that your contribution is making a difference for the planet we have.

For example, when you study, work, have fun, surf online and communicate with the help of your electronic devices, you can apply, on the one hand, good practices recommended by specialists and, on the other hand, prefer those with innovative technologies designed for a minimum environmental impact or, in the best case, zero negative effects on the planet's ecosystems.

If you think, for example, of the panda bear or the common chimpanzee, two of the 5,200 species that are in danger of extinction, you will understand that the survival of these animals may be possible if you join this crusade every time you turn on your equipment and your usage habits are eco-friendly.  You will not leave this urgent commitment to chance.  On the contrary, you will be actively celebrating World Environment Day. Would you like to know these recommendations?  We provide them below.

1. Turn it off if it is not in use! This habit is convenient because, in addition to saving electrical energy, it reduces the risk of the device overheating.  The option of activating hibernation or sleep also demands energy, so it is preferable to turn it off.  By turning it "off" you activate the "on" of a habit in favor of the planet.

2. Multiplied savings: Your Acer devices give you the option of power saving mode. Note that this generates a triple benefit: it consumes energy reasonably, decreases the impact on your electric bill and favors your personal economy.

3. Screen saver and brightness: If you choose a dark screen saver or a black wallpaper, and adjust the screen brightness to the lowest possible level, you will be contributing to responsible energy consumption. Did you know that it also favors the health of your eyes because it reduces the risk of suffering visual fatigue?  It's a win-win formula.

4. Responsible battery use: In addition to the fact that Power Save mode helps prolong the life of your computer's battery, it's wise to unplug your Acer device when it's fully charged. Lithium batteries do not need to be constantly charged, so keeping it plugged in increases the likelihood of damage. Want to learn more about proper battery usage for your Acer device?  Click here.

5. Internet connection: Internet connection time demands energy, so you should adopt criteria and tactics that lead to a conscious use of streaming and downloads.  For example, specialists in this area offer mechanisms that help you download files at a higher speed, even if your Internet connection is slow.

6.Device recycling: When the time comes to replace your electronic device, instead of throwing it in the trash, you can take it to an electronic waste collection center or, if your equipment is still operational, give it a second chance by donating it to a charity in your community.

7. Prefer sustainable products and services: There are technological brands aligned with the design and manufacture of energy efficient and/or environmentally friendly equipment. A good example is the Acer Aspire Vero, which uses post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR), it has integrated applications such as VeroSense for battery management that focuses on energy efficiency and a paint-free chassis that reduces the negative impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

In addition, Acer uses up to 90% recycled paper to manufacture the Aspire Vero's packaging box, which can be easily reconfigured for different uses. The Aspire Vero is a cry of intent: a product focused on sustainability, made with 30% less CO2 emissions, easily recyclable and made to fit the needs of our planet.
