The Government of the Republic of Guatemala granted TAG Airlines the official appointment as the flag carrier of the Guatemalan nation, in recognition of more than 60 years of experience in favor of aviation, air connectivity, tourism promotion and economic development of the country, as well as the region of the Mayan world.

Marcela Toriello, President of TAG Airlines, expressed her gratitude for the distinction and reaffirmed the company's commitment to promote connectivity and economic development. "With great emotion, I share with you that my husband Jonathan Layton always had the dream that TAG Airlines would sail new horizons and become the most important airline in our country and the region. Today I am pleased to assure you that this dream is a reality and we are thrilled to receive this distinction from the Guatemalan authorities", said the company's President.

Julio Gamero, CEO of TAG Airlines, spoke about the airline's transformation and modernization process. He informed that the company is preparing the details for its new routes, which will start operating soon.

These is the Guatemala-Merida route, which will begin operations in the first quarter of this year with four weekly frequencies and competitive fares, as well as the new Guatemala-Oaxaca route, in addition to those already operating between Guatemala-Cancun, Guatemala-Tapachula and Cancun-Flores. Gamero highlighted that, with these actions, TAG Airlines consolidates its position as the airline of the Mayan World, a region that has become a global travel and tourism reference, due to its cultural and archaeological richness, its unique natural beauty, its gastronomy and, especially its people.

In addition, it presented the image of a commemorative airplane with the emblematic quetzal, a sacred bird of the Mayan world, considered the symbol of the country, of freedom and independence. The design was an original idea of the renowned artist Analucía Sian Quiroa and represents the majesty of the quetzal conquering the wind, flying free and soaring through the sky.

Mario Búcaro, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, made the official delivery of the recognition of TAG Airlines as a Guatemalan flag airline, indicating that this milestone will further strengthen the country as a tourist destination, as well as business and others.

TAG Airlines is a one hundred percent Guatemalan company that for 60 years has maintained a strong commitment to air connectivity and development. It currently operates 27 daily flights in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Belize and Mexico, with a modern fleet of more than 20 aircraft.
