Economic activity in El Salvador posted further growth in April 2026, according to data from the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR). The Índice de Volumen de la Actividad Económica (IVAE) rose from 132.5 points in march to 134.1 points in april, representing a monthly growth of 1.2%. The result reflects positive performance across most productive sectors, with construction serving as the main driver of growth during the period.
The strongest momentum came from the construction sector, which recorded the most significant monthly increase. Its index rose from 194.5 points in march to 208.3 points in april—equivalent to 7.1% growth—consolidating its position as the best-performing activity within the IVAE for the month.

After construction, the second-highest growth was seen in the Industrial Production index, which encompasses manufacturing, mining, and other industrial sectors. This index rose from 111.9 to 112.9 points, representing an increase of 0.9%. Real estate activities posted the same rate of growth, with their index rising from 119.4 to 120.5 points, also representing a monthly change of 0.9%.
Other sectors continued to perform well, albeit with more moderate increases. Professional, scientific, technical, administrative, and support services, as well as other services, rose from 151.0 to 151.5 points, equivalent to 0.3%. Similarly, the Public administration and defense, education, health, and social assistance sector rose from 121.9 to 122.3 points, also with a 0.3% increase.

Meanwhile, Financial and insurance activities recorded a 0.4% increase, rising from 172.9 to 173.6 points, maintaining a positive trend throughout april.
In contrast, the Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, and Fishing sector showed no change between march and april, remaining at 101.9 points, while Information and Communications was the only sector to show a monthly decline, falling from 139.7 to 139.5 points—a 0.1% drop.

In addition to monthly growth, the IVAE also showed strong performance in the year-over-year comparison. In april 2025, the index stood at 127.4 points, while in april 2026 it reached 134.1 points, representing annual growth of 5.2%.
The results show that economic activity continued to strengthen in april 2026, driven primarily by the dynamism of the construction sector and accompanied by gains in industrial production, real estate activities, the financial sector, and services. At the same time, stability in agriculture and a slight decline in information and communications did not prevent the Índice de Volumen de la Actividad Económica (IVAE) from maintaining a growth trajectory, both on a month-over-month basis and compared to the same month of the previous year.
