As part of the Economic Diplomacy Strategy promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of El Salvador in Austria held the event “Salvadoran Tourism and Coffee in Austria,” with the aim of promoting the country’s tourism offerings and the quality of its coffee to representatives from various Austrian sectors.
The event took place at the Honorary Consulate of El Salvador in Vienna, with the support of Honorary Consul Hannes Füreder, and was presided over by Ambassador Kennedy Reyes Lazo.
The meeting brought together representatives from Austria’s tourism, business, gastronomy, and media sectors, who expressed interest in learning about the transformation El Salvador is undergoing, particularly in areas such as security, tourism, and coffee production.
During the event, salvadoran authorities presented the country as an emerging tourist destination, highlighting the progress made in security that has positioned El Salvador among the safest countries in the Western Hemisphere.
In addition, they emphasized the sustained growth of tourism, reflected in the arrival of more than 4.1 million international visitors in 2025.

The presentation also included the promotion of the country’s main tourist attractions, including volcanoes, beaches, coffee routes, cultural heritage, and cuisine.
One of the main focuses of the event was the promotion of Salvadoran coffee, which is increasingly recognized in the Austrian market for its quality and diversity.
With the support of the Instituto Salvadoreño del Café (ISC), representative samples from the country’s six coffee-growing regions were presented: Apaneca-Ilamatepec, Bálsamo-Quezaltepec, Tecapa-Chinameca, Alotepec-Metapán, Chichontepec, and Cacahuatique.
The tasting allowed the Austrian public to experience the different profiles and characteristics of salvadoran coffee, strengthening the product’s international standing.
Ambassador Kennedy Reyes Lazo emphasized during his remarks that coffee can serve as a gateway to discovering El Salvador’s cultural and tourist riches.

“Coffee is not just a beverage. It is an experience; it is origin; it is territory; and it can become the gateway to discovering a country of volcanoes, beaches, scenic routes, and a culture that surprises”, he said.
Among the attendees were tour operators specializing in Latin America, specialized media outlets, coffee shops, specialty coffee roasters, coffee importers, and representatives from the hotel industry.
Through these types of activities, the salvadoran government seeks to strengthen the country’s international profile, promote trade opportunities, and continue positioning El Salvador as a tourist destination and producer of high-quality coffee.
