DELSUR clarifies about the increase in the electric energy bill

Written by Evelyn Alas

The distribution company DELSUR clarified that the increase in the electric energy bill is due to the company's compliance with "Agreement 12-E-2003", issued by the Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecomunicaciones (SIGET).

The agreement establishes that, through the electric energy bill, the "Municipal rate for poles", a tax established by the municipalities, is charged.

"The amount detailed in the electric power bill for this concept corresponds entirely to the municipalities. Part of the corporate social responsibility is the importance of informing the users of the concepts that make up the electric energy bill", clarified in a statement the electric energy distribution company DELSUR.

In addition, they explained that taxes are the sole responsibility of the municipality and that any collection issued in this concept is transferred in its entirety to the municipality.

The company has responded to the statements made by the Mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlán, José Manuel Duelas, who stated that the only charges made by the municipality are for: Public illumination, paving, train cleaning and sweeping.

"Therefore, they are asked not to make any payment to the electric energy provider company for poles until the Mayor's Office makes the pertinent investigations in order to clarify the source of this charge", said the Mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlán, José Manuel Dueñas.

However, the company has been emphatic in declaring that it is not an increase for the energy service to its users; but rather it is a matter of compliance with what is legally established by SIGET.
