The measure, which was first approved on june 13, 2023, will remain in force until may 31, 2025, as stated in plenary session number three.
What was approved is an extension to what was already contemplated since 2023 and expires on May 31 of this year. What was done is to give continuity to this propane gas subsidy until next year, said Congressman Rodrigo Ayala.
The legislators took this decision after the Ministry of Economy made a series of technical evaluations and warned that the reasons and conditions that originated the issuance of the decree and its respective extensions continue affecting and negatively impacting the economy of the population and the economic agents throughout the national territory.
The parliamentarian also pointed out that for reasons beyond the country's control, the economy continues to be hit in the area of oil, liquefied gas and its derivatives. Thus, with this extension the Government is trying to provide relief and protection to salvadorans with a "price freeze".
The prices with the generalized subsidy will be as follows:
A 35-pound gas cylinder will cost US$15.50; a 25-pound cylinder will cost US$11.13; a 20-pound cylinder will cost US$8.98; and a 10-pound cylinder will cost US$4.61.
If the targeted subsidy that many families receive is applied, the prices will be as follows:
The 35-pound gas cylinder will cost US$7.46; the 25-pound cylinder, at US$3.09; the 20-pound cylinder, at US$0.94; and the 10-pound cylinder, at US$0.00.
