US$56 million investment for new passenger terminal at El Salvador Airport

The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, inaugurated the first stage of the expansion of the passenger terminal of the Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador “San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez, which will allow the country to boost economic development, with the generation of new sources of employment and increase capacity in passenger service, with an investment of US$56 million.

The first stage of the terminal has a construction area of 21,672.95 square meters, which will enable it to serve a demand of 5 million passengers per year. It comprises a three-story building, five new waiting rooms with wide aisles and double-height passenger lounges; five new boarding bridges, which will have the capacity to handle wide-body aircraft.

Also, the new International Airport terminal has security control areas with X-Ray equipment for passengers' baggage, both entering and leaving the country, a new and modern commercial area with 14 new stores, an immigration check-in area with 10 new counters and five airline counters.

The President also explained that the expansion of the International Airport of El Salvador represents a very strong logistic potential, in addition to other initiatives such as the cargo terminal and the implementation of new hangars for aircraft maintenance.

He said that with the office of the First Lady, Gabriela de Bukele, they are working on having the first breastfeeding booths at the International Airport of El Salvador, in order to provide a safe and comfortable space for passengers to breastfeed their babies.
