The President of the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), Daniel Álvarez, said in a morning interview that they have invested more than US$10 million in the recovery of the hydroelectric and geothermal plants.

He also said that the generation of hydroelectric power in 2021 was 32% and 35%, in geothermal between 25% and 22%, the two are around 50% to meet the demand in the country.

He said that CEL has promoted other types of renewable technologies such as solar, which help to level the matrix covered by hydrocarbons, there is also a wind farm in El Salvador and a natural gas plant, which facilitates energy independence.

He affirmed that, since the end of 2021, work began on the reservoir of the 3 de febrero hydroelectric dam.

Álvarez said that there is no stipulated date to start operations; everything will depend on the winter to be able to reach the 2-14 quota, which is the one needed to start up the hydroelectric power plant.

The installed capacity is 66 megawatts, with which they seek to provide clean energy for 200,000 salvadoran homes. This year they would be injecting energy to the electricity sector.

He said that the more they seek to promote renewable energies, photovoltaic, wind, hydroelectric and geothermal, they will have a greater supply of cheaper clean energy.
