Vindegaspro agrees to a free propane gas filling market

Written by Evelyn Alas

The representative of Vindegaspro of El Salvador, Edgar Escobar, said that the possible reforms to the Law Regulating the Deposit, Transportation and Distribution of Petroleum Products, the union agrees that there could be a free market in the country for the filling of gas cylinders.

If the reforms are approved, the country would become part of the group of nations that carry out universal and free filling. At the national level, it is only allowed to exchange cylinders between different companies in case of shortage of the product, but there must be an agreement from the Ministry of Economy to carry out this practice.

For Escobar, free filling will allow them to sell the product of any brand in the country. He said that the different labels of liquefied gas, by having more competition, will allow distributors to have a higher profit margin.

He expressed that if this reform is approved, a change of all gas cylinders should be made, because this way they can guarantee salvadorans a product that does not have pitting, leaks or can cause an accident.

In addition, he recommends that salvadorans should change the valves, because there are many families that have been using them for 10 years or more.

He also said that currently the filling is only done by each gas company in its brand, limiting the retail sector to distribute other brands.

This measure will allow gas distributors to offer salvadorans any brand, according to the consumer's taste and choice.
