The project will be implemented in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras with an investment of more than US$8.4 million and includes the execution of non-reimbursable resources to finance innovative and profitable rural entrepreneurship ventures.

The project is financed by the EU and executed by FAO in coordination with the salvadoran government. Its area of influence will be in 12 municipalities in the department of San Miguel: Carolina, Ciudad Barrios, Chapeltique, Lolotique, Moncagua, Nueva Guadalupe, Nuevo Eden de San Juan, San Antonio del Mosco, San Gerardo, San Jorge, San Miguel and Sesori, benefiting 1,800 households.

This initiative contributes to Plan Cuscatlán and is linked to the Agricultural Rescue Master Plan, supporting 200 enterprises of producer groups and associations in the eastern part of the country.

The Vice Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Lily Pacas, emphasized that the cooperation projects go hand in hand with the work carried out by the Government, an example of which is the Master Plan for Agricultural Rescue.

The launching of this project is also another example of the coordinated work between partners, cooperating partners, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the El Salvador Agency for International Cooperation, municipalities, the Ministry of the Interior, communities, entrepreneurs and producers.

In addition, it will facilitate access to markets and promote social and economic development, boosting the income of families, for which they will be accompanied in the development of a business and investment plan.

The European Union representative in El Salvador, Miguel Ángel Varela, said: "This project will be a sure success for the country's development, and the participation of women is crucial.

This is one of the priorities that the European Union has as a transversal axis in what it does, that is why the program has to promote the participation and empowerment of rural women and young people. The commitment is to build resilience to the challenges of climate change affecting the Central American region.

Diego Recalde, FAO representative, said that the actions will be developed in the Dry Corridor and will be of utmost importance.

Maritza Quintanilla, who belongs to the Unidad Productiva La Huerta, where they grow vegetables indoors, thanked on behalf of everyone and said that learning is constant, so they are facing a new experience.
