New fuel prices to increase up to US$0.09 for the next fortnight in El Salvador

Written by Alondra Gutiérrez

The Ministry of Economy (MINEC) announced the new prices for gasoline and diesel in different zones of the country for the next fortnight.

The new variations in the reference prices of fuels in the country, for this fortnight, are presented as follows:

  • Premium gasoline will increase US$0.06/gallon in the three zones of the country.
  • Regular gasoline will increase US$0.09/gallon in the three zones of the country.
  • Low sulfur diesel will increase US$0.05/gallon in the central and western zones; while for the eastern zone it will increase US$0.06.

The Ministry of Economy announces that the reference prices for fuels will be effective from june 29 to july 12, 2021.

The price variation is due to external factors such as:

  • Decrease in strategic reserves of the United States, main exporter for El Salvador.
  • Uncertainty before the meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPECP) and allies

Variations in international prices have influenced prices in Central America, however, El Salvador is in second place with the lowest cost of premium gasoline, regular gasoline and low sulfur diesel in the region.

The prices published by the Ministry of Economy are suggested and the service stations are the ones that establish them, according to supply and demand. In El Salvador, liquid fuel prices are liberalized.
