"To this day, we can affirm that we have a market supplied with basic grains, as a result of the measures that have begun to be taken", said the president of the Defensoría del consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, after a series of inspections carried out among importers and wholesale and retail sellers of basic grains, during the course of the last week.

"Currently, the market is supplied and our institution will remain vigilant to any abuse. We are monitoring and ensuring that the population perceives the low prices. This measure is beneficial for salvadorans", said the official.

The Defensoría del consumidor will continue in the coming days with this type of controls, to contribute and ensure price stabilization and access to products of the basic basket, such as beans, corn, rice, eggs and other poultry and dairy products.

These verifications are part of the work that, since the implementation of anti-crisis measures in march last year to combat the effects of global inflation and protect the pockets of salvadorans and have been intensified since this year in a coordinated manner by different government institutions.

"This is a task in which we are 100% committed to provide all the guarantees in order to assure the population that we will be vigilant and, above all, doing a job that ensures that these benefits are transferred to the population," reiterated the head of the Defensoría del Consumidor, referring to some complaints received from consumers about indications of unjustified price increases, especially in dairy products and basic grains.

Finally, he said that the staff of the institution remains on standby to address cases of unjustified increases, both in basic grains, dairy and other products both on WhatsApp 7844-1482 and 910.
