The Historic Center of San Salvador has registered a projected US$200 million in private investment processed through the Autoridad del Centro Histórico one-stop shop by the end of june of this year. This investment is part of the area’s transformation into a leading tourist, commercial, and cultural destination in El Salvador and Central America.
The director of the Autoridad del Centro Histórico, Adriana Larín, explained that this investment reflects the growing interest of the private sector in developing new projects in the area, where an agenda combining cultural, gastronomic, and entertainment activities is being promoted to attract visitors and generate new economic opportunities.
As part of this strategy, the Latte Art Throwdown barista competition was held this wednesday at Paseo San Jorge, located near Plaza Morazán. The event brought together approximately 50 salvadoran baristas who demonstrated their skills in preparing specialty coffee beverages.
Larín emphasized that the growth of specialty coffee shops represents an opportunity to strengthen the local economy, as these businesses not only offer new experiences for visitors but also contribute to job creation and the development of new ventures.
“Coffee shops, especially specialty coffee shops, are gaining ground, not only because of the design of their spaces but also because of the jobs they generate”, the official noted, adding that more and more young salvadorans are joining this industry.
During the competition, each participant had five minutes to prepare two cups using latte art techniques, which were evaluated by eight national judges. Ten baristas from coffee shops located in the Autoridad del Centro Histórico represented the participating group.
The Autoridad del Centro Histórico highlighted that promoting specialty coffee is part of a broader vision to revitalize the area through investment, tourism, and economic activities that will strengthen the offerings for residents and visitors.
With the arrival of new private projects and the development of gastronomic and cultural initiatives, the Historic Center continues to position itself as a space with the potential to attract investment, generate employment, and become a leading tourist destination in the region.
