The Legislative Assembly, with 57 votes, authorized the Government of El Salvador to sign an Acuerdo de Alcance Parcial con el Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia. This initiative aims to expand trade opportunities, facilitate access to new markets, strengthen bilateral cooperation, and foster conditions to boost the economy and generate employment.
The treaty establishes a legal and institutional framework to promote economic integration between the two countries, facilitate the movement of goods, and strengthen trade through preferential conditions for various products.
As part of the agreement, Bolivia will grant preferential treatment to 259 salvadoran products, while El Salvador will do the same for 250 Bolivian products. This seeks to expand bilateral trade and diversify opportunities for productive sectors in both nations.
Among the salvadoran products that could access the Bolivian market are items such as tilapia, tuna, shrimp, whole and ground coffee, confectionery, juices, medicines, cosmetics, plastic products, paper and cardboard, textiles, clothing, footwear, as well as iron and steel products.
The salvadoran market would facilitate the entry of bolivian products such as fruits, flowers, yerba mate, medicines, hides, leather, footwear, glass manufactures, pipes, fittings, and metal furniture.

The agreement also includes mechanisms to facilitate bilateral trade through the progressive elimination of tariffs and the reduction of non-tariff barriers, as well as provisions related to rules of origin, trade remedies, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and the regulation of technical barriers to trade.
Another component included is the recognition of products with special or distinctive value.
Within this framework, Bolivia will recognize salvadoran products such as Apaneca-Ilamatepec coffee, artisanal liquors, and Olocuilta rice pupusas, while El Salvador will do the same for Bolivian products such as singani, royal quinoa, and wines from the Cinti Valley.
In addition to the trade component, the agreement includes areas for economic, scientific, and technological cooperation.
Among the topics mentioned within this scope are the exchange of technical knowledge, support in energy sectors, and experience related to the marketing of liquefied petroleum gas.

Legislative authorization allows progress toward the formal signing of the treaty, which seeks to expand economic relations between the two countries and open new opportunities for exporters and productive sectors.
From an economic perspective, the agreement also aims to diversify markets for salvadoran products, reduce dependence on traditional export destinations, and create conditions for greater trade.
Furthermore, the possibility of incentivizing investment and technical cooperation is presented as part of a broader scope that goes beyond the trade of goods.
With this decision, the way is paved for an instrument that seeks to strengthen economic ties between El Salvador and Bolivia through preferential trade, cooperation, and access to new market opportunities.
