In order to improve the country’s dry corridor, an agreement has been signed to carry out three potable water improvement projects. It should be noted that in the first phase of this program, approximately US$1.3 million was invested, benefiting more than 1,360 inhabitants of Yucuaiquín and Anamorós in La Unión.
These areas, located in the dry corridor, suffer significantly from climate variability, making intervention in drinking water infrastructure crucial.
During the second phase, which began in november of the same year, a similar investment was made to improve service in Jocoro, Morazán, benefiting some 500 families. These efforts have significantly improved access to potable water in vulnerable regions of the country.
The event was held with the participation of Euskal Fondoa’s representative for Central America, Aitor Joseba Landa, as a witness of honor. This initiative is part of the third phase of the Interinstitutional Water and Sanitation Cooperation Program.
The new phase of the program, recently announced, will focus on three new districts in the eastern part of the country: San Alejo in La Unión Sur, San Jorge in San Miguel Oeste, and El Triunfo in Usulután Norte. According to Rubén Alemán, President of ANDA, approximately 25,000 inhabitants will see an improvement in the quality and quantity of their drinking water.
This project not only seeks to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants, but also to promote gender equity, as more than half of the beneficiaries are expected to be women. With this initiative, the country reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and the improvement of basic services in the neediest areas.
