In august 2024, the monthly inflation of the Producer Price Index (IPP) in El Salvador was 0.25%. This increase brought the General Producer Price Index to 133.69 points, marking a slight increase over the previous month. The electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supplies section played a crucial role in mitigating the negative impact of the manufacturing industry on the general index.
According to the report of the Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos (ONEC) of the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR), seven of the thirteen categories registered increases. The category with the highest increase was education, with an increase of 0.93%. Increases were also observed in transportation (0.68%), telecommunications (0.61%) and manufacturing industry, which, although modest, showed an increase of 0.18%.
Some activities remained without variation in their prices. Real estate activities, water supply and health activities did not experience significant changes, indicating stability in these sectors amid fluctuation in others.
As for decreases, declines were reported in gas supply with 0.92%, followed by administrative services (0.02%) and service activities (0.01%). These declines reflect the diversity of behavior in the prices of products and services in the country, which contributes to the complexity of the current economic analysis.
