Saving: How to start and maintain this practice?

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

Saving can be achieved by having a budget of expenses, this can be weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly, this will depend on each person's taste and needs.

The most important key here is to prioritize expenses; and if you have the need or desire to make a purchase that is not within the budget, you should think about how much it costs, how much is the income, how long you intend to save this money to purchase the product or service; in this way it is easier to have a projection of the percentage of money to be saved in the time that is stipulated.

You can even apply the 80-90 rule, that is, live with either 80% or 90% of your income and allocate the 10% or 20% that is left over to savings, this means that the percentage that you are saving can be invested and earn interest, this way you know how much you will save monthly and be able to buy what you want in the shortest time possible.

How can you eliminate those ant expenses so that you can continue with the practice of saving?

If something is not budgeted, it is better not to buy it, because this could destabilize what you had already planned to spend.

Ant expenses are those that are considered "small purchases", for example, a coffee, a sweet bread or some candy, which is not bad, but if it is done constantly and a long-term projection is made, it is no longer an ant expense, but a variable expense.

When a savings goal is clear and achieved, a very important stage begins that not all people can do; and this is the investment.

Creating a savings account will allow the money to begin to generate interest, also another way to put to work what has been saved is to invest it in other projects that generate profitability, in this way it does not remain stagnant.
