Increases in withholding sent by the Pension System

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security announced that many employers, including municipalities, pay the legal withholding to the Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (ISSS), but did not send the withholding of the Social Security System, affecting any retirement process to workers.

According to the SIMEL graph shared by the head of the labor portfolio, Rolando Castro, there has been an increase in the withholding of the Pension System.

The graph shows that in 2019, 150 thousand people were affected, but by june 2023 it was reduced to 113 thousand workers, with the implementation of the Sistema de Planilla Única (SPU).

This eradicates the pension gap so that workers no longer have problems in their retirement processes.

"We have eliminated an endemic evil in El Salvador, the pension gap. Many employers, including municipalities, pay the legal withholding to the ISSS, but did not send the withholding from the Social Security System. Affecting any retirement process to workers. The year 2019 affected 150,000 and for the year 2023 up to june 113,000 workers. This is now a thing of the past, today we have the Sistema de Planilla Única (SPU). This completely eradicates the pension gap and workers will no longer have problems in their retirement processes”, said minister Castro.
