The agreement was signed in 2023 and has a budget of US$132 million. It seeks to help the Executive Branch continue implementing the Agricultural Rescue Master Plan, the Economic Take-Off Plan, the National Food and Nutritional Security Policy, and the Social Development Plan, among others.
The Government and WFP will work together to support salvadorans to be better able to meet their food and nutrition needs.
In addition, to contribute to sustainable food systems with a focus on increased production, local consumption, and accessible and resilient markets. Also, to strengthen the capacities of government institutions to address the structural causes of food and nutrition insecurity in the country and support humanitarian partners with services that enable them to be more efficient and effective.
El Salvador has made progress in food security, nutrition, gender equality, poverty, and security in recent years, but still faces challenges to reduce food insecurity and improve nutrition in the most vulnerable populations.
The country is highly vulnerable to the impact of climate change, which together with the socioeconomic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, have increased the challenges that impact food security.
