International online education portal Coursera Inc. may enter El Salvador

Through social networks, Cristian Flores, Presidential Commissioner for Strategic Projects, informed that the Central Government is negotiating an agreement with the international online education portal Coursera Inc.

Coursera Inc. is a US-based, for-profit, massive provider of open online courses, founded in 2012.

This platform is known worldwide for its specialized technical training offerings, which also holds certifications by prestigious universities, according to the official.

The official explained that it is "a platform recognized globally for its specialized technical training offer, academically backed and certified by the most prestigious universities in the world".

This tool develops specialized training programs in areas such as technology and innovation, Blochain, agro-production, entrepreneurship, health, community development and social skills.

"These courses are designed to meet the specific demands of the Salvadoran and international labor market, thus promoting employability in strategic sectors", he said.

"The collaboration between the Government of El Salvador, through the Strategic Projects Commission, and Coursera Inc. is about to be formalized, in a joint effort that also involves the private sector and other relevant government institutions, such as the Escuela Superior de Innovación y Tecnología (ESIT), led by the Secretariat of Innovation, and the Ministries of Education, Economy, Agriculture and Livestock, among others, the official assured.
