The first flight of Avianca’s direct San Salvador–Madrid route departed from El Salvador International Airport today, marking the start of a seasonal connection that will strengthen air connectivity between El Salvador and Spain during the summer season.
This new service represents an important step in continuing to expand travel options from the Salvadoran airport, facilitating passenger mobility between Central America and Europe, as well as tourism, trade, cultural, and family exchange between the two destinations.

The San Salvador–Madrid route will be available until september 15, 2026, with four weekly flights and approximately 35,000 seats available, responding to the growing demand from travelers between El Salvador, Spain, and other european markets.
This new air service directly contributes to strengthening tourism by facilitating the arrival of international visitors to the country and expanding opportunities for more Salvadorans to connect directly with Europe. It also benefits the diaspora by offering a more efficient travel alternative to reunite with their families and maintain ties with El Salvador.

This progress is the result of President Nayib Bukele’s strategic vision, who has promoted the modernization of public infrastructure and the strengthening of key areas for the country’s economic, tourism, and logistical development. Thanks to this vision, El Salvador continues to position itself as a more attractive, competitive, and globally connected destination.

Last year, El Salvador International Airport handled more than 5.2 million passengers, a figure that reflects the sustained growth of air traffic and the country’s positioning as a regional hub. So far this year, the airport has already registered more than 2.2 million passengers, confirming a positive trend in passenger flow.

CEPA continues to provide suitable conditions for airlines, operators, and passengers through modern, safe, and efficient airport infrastructure that will allow it to continue attracting new routes, expanding operations, and strengthening El Salvador’s international connectivity.
