To know the perception of salvadoran entrepreneurs, the Observatorio MYPE through a survey asked what the main motivation for entrepreneurship was, to which 29% of salvadoran micro-entrepreneurs responded: the business is a family inheritance and another 28% the lack of employment.

Followed by 24% of the MSE respondents who indicated the opportunity to obtain more income, then 16% identified a desire to be independent and on a smaller scale 3% decided to start a business after they were fired from their jobs.

The Fundación de Desarrollo Integral, through its Observatorio MYPE, indicated that the relevance of Micro and Small Enterprises (MYPE) in the economy lies in the intensive use of labor, the high degree of dynamism of the local economy and domestic consumption, in addition to being possibly the only occupational option for young women of limited resources who seek to integrate into the formal economy.

Regarding the academic-labor role in the MSE, 90% are dedicated exclusively to work, and only 10% combine the management of an informal MSE with their studies. This situation reflects a significant limitation, since the lack of access to education parallel to their economic activities restricts their professional development and the growth potential of their enterprises.

This report analyzed the situation of young people between 18 and 30 years of age, who manage micro and small informal businesses, in which it was reflected that the economically active female population in the country, which amounts to 1,274,253 people, 36.5% are between 20 and 34 years of age.

In the last five years, formal employment has grown by 1% per year on average, while the employed population has increased at a rate of 2.2% per year, which has led to the majority being employed in the informal sector, which is growing at more than 5% per year.
