This weekend concluded the First Round of negotiations of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between El Salvador and the People’s Republic of China. In these meetings participated a prominent delegation of the economic cabinet of President Nayib Bukele, as well as representatives of the Chinese government.
During the discussions, significant progress was made in several key areas, including intellectual property protection, exchange of services, recognition of legal frameworks and access to new markets. Issues related to the digital economy were also addressed, which promises to further strengthen trade relations between the two countries.
It is relevant to mention that, in 2023, trade between El Salvador and China exceeded US$1.8 billion. China has established itself as El Salvador’s third largest trading partner, and economic relations between the two nations continue to advance positively.
It is expected that in the next rounds of negotiations more progress will be made and conclusions will be reached that will be beneficial for the future of both economies.
