The Government of El Salvador has earmarked an unprecedented investment of US$1,424.8 million in the eastern part of the country, with the aim of promoting economic, social, and tourism growth. Highlights include the Port of La Unión (US$400 million), the Pacific Airport (US$386 million), and the Gerardo Barrios Peripheral Highway (US$160 million), among other key infrastructure projects.

President Nayib Bukele has emphasized that these projects represent a significant transformation for the region, generating new employment opportunities, attracting investment, and sustainable development. In addition, US$385.4 million has been earmarked for various works that will improve connectivity and the quality of life of the inhabitants of the eastern part of the country.
Complementary works include the construction of two bridges in San Miguel: the San Antonio bridge ($11 million) and the Carolina bridge ($12.5 million). In addition, the Punta Mango highway, which connects Usulután with San Miguel, has received $41 million to improve its road infrastructure. In Morazán, the historic site of El Mozote has benefited from a $28 million investment, promoting tourism and recognition of historical memory.


The Pacific Airport is one of the most ambitious projects in the plan, as it will facilitate trade and tourism in the region. Its development represents a key step to position El Salvador as a strategic point in Central America’s air connectivity.
President Bukele reaffirmed his commitment to the country’s progress by declaring: “At last there will be development, investment, employment and economic growth”. This millionaire investment confirms the Government’s commitment to improve infrastructure and provide new opportunities for salvadorans in the eastern region.
